Frequently Asked Questions

I have an audio to transcribe - what is the difference between charging by 'per recorded minute' and by the 'hour'? One hour of clear audio can take anywhere between 3-6 hours to transcribe, sometimes longer depending on the speed and experience of the transcriber. At JVA Solutions, we charge 'per recorded minute' (PRM) - this gives the client a definitive price up front i.e.
60mins x $2.30prm = $132. Charging by the hour is costly i.e. 3 to 6hrs x $50 = $150 - $300 and the cost is dependant on the speed of the transcriber.

What is the difference between a virtual assistant and a temp? A virtual assistant has a vested interest in the success of their client and their business whereas a temp's loyalty is to their agency. A temp agency cannot guarantee the same temp each time whereas a virtual assistant business can saving the client time, money and stress associated with familiarising and training new temps. Temp agencies usually have a minimum of 4 hours and charge for time worked. Virtual assistants charge a minimum of 1 hour with 15 minute increments thereafter and only charge for productive time. Virtual assistants do not charge for downtime i.e. bathroom visits, coffee breaks and water cooler chats.
